Thursday Infront of Kasr El Nile Police Station

The Hisham Mubarak Law Center calls on Egyptian Human Rights organizations and representatives of international organizations to participate in a demonstration, in front of Qasr El-Nil police station, Garden City, on Thursday 1 June 2006 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.
This demonstration will protest the torture of Mohamad Sharqawi and Karim El-Sha3er (Kefaya activists) by security officers in this station on Thursday 25 May 2006.
Sharqawi and El-Sha3r were seized and brutally beaten, in front of several witnesses, by plain clothes policemen outside the journalists syndicate, as they were leaving a peaceful demonstration held to commemorate black Wednesday (25 May 2005), and to express solidarity with Egyptian judges. . Then they were taken to Qasr El-Nil police station were they were again brutally attacked and Sharqawi was sexually abused. Finally they were referred to the state security prosecutor’s office where, despite the obvious gravity of their injuries, the prosecutor in charge of the investigation refused to provide them with medical assistance, and remanded them in custody for 15 days.
